I have recently set up a home network, with the server machine runnning Windows XP and the client running Windows 98se. The client machine connects to the net through ICS. MSN Messenger runs fine on the client machine, until you want to send files. The Server computer also can only send files when the Windows XP Firewall is turned off. We have an ADSL connection. Any help would be great!

No
The Server computer is connected through the ADSL modem.......and then there is a hub connecting our computers into another network card on the server.

I am having the same problems as you. I am connecting 4 clients to a server through a hub on a cable connection. Using ICS some how does not translate the ip info properly this is due to the NAT and something to do with universal plug and play. The solution to this problem would be to install proxy and enabling TCP ports outbound and inbound range 6891 - 6900. This will allow 10 tansfers at once per user. And with voice communications you have to enable TCP port 6901 and UDP port also related to the same port.
You can find more information on the microsoft technet.
Sorry I did not keep the address but it is quite straight foward to find.
Good Luck if you haven't solved the problem yet.

I have a similar problem and I'have routed with NAT the TCP port from 6891 to 6900 and it just allow me to receive files, I still cannot send files with MSN.
