Hi all,
I am using a d-link router to network 4 pc's at my house. the upstairs pc is using the wireless connection.
The upstairs pc is on the same network as the others (mshome) yet it cannot see any of the other pc's. the downstairs ones have no problem with eachother, but none can see the upstairs pc.
The upstairs pc has no problem connecting to the internet, so I know the wireless is working.
I have no idea what a ping is or how to do 1, so if I have to do this please tell me how lol. I shall also look this up and update if i manage it.
I have ran the network wizard on all pc's many times but this doesn't correct it.
If it's any use, the upstairs pc has an admin account which is passworded (protection for kids lol), and it's this account i am trying to connect. I have no wish for my kids to have a net connection, so I'm not interested in attempting to do that on their limited accounts.
I have also tried connection with no firewalls or any sort of protection on to see if it was a problem there. Thanks for reading.

I managed to find out how to ping a pc lol.
When i retrieved the ip address from the upstairs pc, it said...
"autoconfiguration ip address xxx.xxx.xx.xx
Never seen that before, and certainly not in the window of retieving ip addresses from my other pc's.However, I pinged the other pc's and perfect result. however i tried pinging upstairs, and it timed out therefore losing all 4 packets, meaning a big failure lol.
I have no idea what to do now to fix it.
wierd thing is, i can connect my laptop wirelessly with the same links dongle no problem. but any pc's trying to connect to the laptop for some reason needs a password (which i didnt set)( I believe the router is doing this as the window requesting the password is the same window to alter router settings).Any how, thats my update. many thanks
