Does anyone know of any software or How-to guides to create an MP3 server in Windows or Linux? I would like to create one for my home network.
Thanks.

Hi hows it going,
Your idea sounds interesting, theres a number of ways you could set up an mp3 server!! I.e. ftp and html or even simple file sharing if your using it just in your home network!!Personnally I would'nt share mp3's over the net because of the legallity of doing so!!
My LAN has one pc always on that is the fileserver (1gig RAM)!! All I do is map a drive from every pc in my lan to the file server that is always on!!
Then in media player on all the clients I search the network drive for my mp3's and I set my Kazza download folder to the network drive also, therefore anything anyone downloads goes in the network mp3 folder, the fileserver has norton firewall and anti virus and it scans all new downloads as soon as they arrive and quaretines them if nessary!!If this isnt what you want have a look at the following!
For example do you want a file avaliable on the net to store mp3's so every one can log and just download what ever they want!! Or do you want a website that controls downloads from your fileserver?
Do you know anything about php?
Php together with a webserver could be your answer, you could write or get someone to write a few scripts so that your website keeps track of your mp3's and even who downloads what and when!
Let me know if you want anymore help!!
All the best ~Rich
