Mozilla, IE, and Chrome all crash when started with no delay

Specs: Windows Vista
Had this machine for over a year with no issues like this. No anti-virus has found anything. I've disabled and uninstalled everything that looked remotely unuseful including all startup programs not needed. I've used 2 separate restore points where they worked. Recently I completely formatted the drive and reinstalled the OS. What's strange is pre-installed software, like the little game center crap that comes with windows now, has full connectivity and as long as you're using their interface internet is not interrupted. When a browser is opened, however, you see the website, but once of the browsers says "A program has caused your browser to fail" and the other ones do their normal thing and crash in the normal "Not responding" fashion. I can't imagine it's the NIC, I tried direct routing into the modem instead of the router, I tried a different cable to the router/modem, etc etc. Like I said I formatted the hard drive and I'm getting the same results which leads me to believe it's not a virus... but if it's not software and the hardware seems to be fine since it works on integrated internet-based interfaces then I'm really lost on what else I could try.

AVG Antivirus can cause that on some systems. So if AVG is your antivirus, uninstall it and install an alternative virus scanner.

AVG isn't the cause. There's a trial norton and McAfee that were on it but I uninstalled both of them and the only firewall/anti-malware is the integrated windows ones.
