Moody network card

Specs: win xp, dell p4 256 ram
I have this dell pc (p4 w/ 256 ram) and I recently did a fresh install of XP on it...the built in NIC was dead so I installed a netgear fa311 model NIC card...it works just fine when I plug it in my home router(comcast cable) ... but it refuses to accept the IP address when I plug it in my office(AT&T dsl)...it is not the office connect or cable as I have plugged in 2 other PCs and one laptop in the same line at work and it works just fine on all three cases...the results in the IPCONFIG screen varies, such as:

- no IP adress, media disconnected
- the IP has the gateway address (192.168.1.1) and the gateway is blank
- I have tried release and renew, did not help
- tried assiging an IP from TCP-IP config...did not work

I brought the pc back home and it works just fine again...

Please help me out if anyone knows why my NIC is being so moody.

Well in your work you might really need the authorization of your office's administrator so that it can be connected in the net work.
