Modem Router + W/less Router on same network

Specs: Windows XP
Hi, I have a D-Link 502t gen 2 modem router. I also have a Dick Smith Electronics W/less router cat code xh9948. I have both connected together, and as expected it causes many problems when trying to play games on my ps3.

What is the best way to have them acting simply as a gateway and a router.

I hear there are two options, one involving NAT and the other involving DHCP (which is apparently easier to configure.

I know that for the DHCP option, the modem router is plugged into a LAN port on the W/less router instead of the WAN port. Then DHCP on the W/less router is disabled. But I am not sure where to go after this.

I am more than happy to assign all of my devices Static IPs.

Can you help with this????

I am not a gamer but I would certainly try static IP addresses. In fact, I prefer static IPs on small networks. I never understood why the world is fascinated with DHCP.
