Modem problem - error 797 damn!!!

Well, the modem is a Crypto Link 56K USB (Conexant compatible) and the problem is: Every time I try to connect I get the usual error "Modem was not found" etc. I don't have any other software using the modem so I assume that the port is free. I've changed a dozen of drivers but no use. The modem only works the first time i install it and crashes after reboot. I'm desperate!!! Help!!
