Ok. Help me out here. I'd like to purchase a Mac or PC DESKTOP. However, I live in a rural area where, aside from expensive satellite connection (hughesnet), I am limited to dial-up. But I had an idea. No one at Dell or Apple (maybe they're not trained to answer these type questions over the phone)has been able to answer it: Why can't I get broadband access and use it on a desktop? Or can I? My mobile phone works great at my house...what do I need to do to make this work. Remember, I don't want or have a laptop.
Any suggestions also on whether a pc or mac would be better for this particular configuration?
Thanks,
Angie

You can. There are at least 2 home (or soho) type routers that allow the use of 3g cards in the router. Both would work for any modern OS. Not sure it would be much less than hughes net. A guy at work has it and likes it, says it is a bit faster than the satellite depends on your local coverage.
There is also line of site companies that took over line of site tv.
There are some high power wi-fi services.
There are people that allow the use either free or for fee their broadband connection. I forget that deals name. They use terms like client and server but that isn't the terms. Something like leacher and loaners or I forget.
There are ways or were ways to use the pbone but you run into an issue normally of bit's that cost per bit not per month. See your carrier for details.I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

Why don't you call your cell phone provider and ask them what options they have for cellular broadband?
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
