I have a small home network consisting of a Windows 2000 computer (referred to as Athlon) a couple of Windows 98 computers and a Windows ME laptop. I have them networked through a hub and have set them up with static IP addresses.
My problem is that I cannot get the Windows ME laptop to see the files on Athlon. They certainly seem to talk to each other and pinging works fine in both directions. When I try to access My Network Places I get a list of mapped folders on the various computers, and when I click on Entire Network... Workgroup, I get a list of "My Computer" type icons representing all the computers on the network including Athlon. When I click on the plus sign adjacent to the icon I get a message box which says:
"\\Athlon is not accessible. No permission to access resource."
Similarly, when I try to set up the windows ME laptop to use the printer which is connected to Athlon, installing the driver asks me to browse to the printer I want to use on the network, but that one isn't visible.
I can't imagine that it is because I haven't configured Windows 2000 correctly because, as I say, the other computers work fine in that they will show me the contents of Athlon quite happily.
Obviously I have set up file and printer sharing on Windows 2000.
I have set up the Win2K Athlon as no password and logged on as administrator.
I'm sure the solution is something very simple, any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Phil. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you as I am having similar trouble. If you get a response, I would greatly appreciate it if you could send it my way.

I have a ME machine and a 98 SE machine networked via a Belkin 4 port router. Both machines are pinging just fine, and both can share the DSL internet connection just fine. However, I can't get either machine to recognize the other on the network.

Thanks very much in advance and I hope that you solve your problem.

David
