I log onto a PC on my own domain, and then want to be able to connect to a location on another domain, and ideally map it as a drive. This is fine, and can be done via My Computer -> Map Network Drive. As I need to "connect as another user" (as the network drive sits on a different domain) there's no option to remember username and password. No problem, thinks I, I can tell Windows to remember this via the "manage your network passwords" feature in the control panel. But it doesn't work. If I enter the share location, and associated domain username and password, I'm still told "Windows could not re-connect all network drives" when I log in.
One option would be to use a batch script to map the drive, but this would mean having to store the password in the batch script in plain text format, which is hardly a secure way of going about things.
Can anyone shed any light on to why the "manage network" passwords feature isn't working, or suggest another way of solving this problem?
Many thanks,
Ed Ludlow

OK problem solved!
Create the batch script including the password, and then instead of running the batch script at logon, compile it so you have an executable, and then run this instead. As long as you have "@ECHO OFF" in your script, the password won't be displayed, and can't be worked out.
Ed
