Hello, I have problems with a network. We have Windows 2003 as a file and print server, that connects to xp machines. We also use a startup script for each user to load printers and map drives. Here is the problem:
When opening the mapped drive on an xp machine (all machines do this), the operating system becomes very unstable. We do alot of graphic design, so sometimes just opening this drive will close every application running, including Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft office. Pretty much whatever is open will close, leaving no error messages, and any work currently in progress is lost (no data, just open apps). Also, when the mapped drive window stays open, creating a new folder is a big chore. After right clicking and selecting new - folder, the folder is placed right away in alphabetic order. I just don't know what to think, we are using new machines, so its not a performance issue. Also no firewall on the computers, but we do use norton 2003. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dan

If this is true, is there a link to this so I can learn more about it? I couldn't find anything, and I am cautious installing updates (this is a production server that doesn't allow for downtime, and frankly, I just don't trust micro$oft enough to do a 'blind' update).

Backup your server, then install the update. If you have problems, remove the update. If you still have problems, restore from backup.
