a shared drive is a drive or folder that is being advertized on the network as available to be utilized.
a mapped drive, more specificly known as a mapped drive letter, is a remote stations assignment of a drive letter to the advertized share.
So on the shared drive you might have MY Share. On the remote wkst in My Computer there would be a drive letter like F: that is associated with the share My Share. By clicking on F: you get to the contents of My Share.
