mapped drives not showing

I have a winxp pro logging onto nt4 domain, users have a logon script which mappes drives etc.
ok, I've disabled ntconfig.pol by renaming it, but if a user logs on using this machine, the first time all the mapped drives are in my computer and all is good. If that person then logs off then back on, the drives are mapped again all successfully but they don't show in my computer! If you open word and browse for a file to open, you can see the mapped drives there though. Also in dos, the drives are there.
