Hi Guys,

Neeed help extending Home network.

I'm trying to extend my LAN to another room in the house ( approx 100ft away). I ran the Cat5e cable through the walls and attached a Leviton Cat 5e Jack at each end with wall plates. I used the 586b color code method.

I then plug a cat cable from the Router to the wall plate at one end and another cable from the other wall plate to my laptop at the other end.

But I get "a no connection" with that setup.

Am I doing anything wrong. Is my setup right. AThis is my first time trying this. Any tips.

I know that the cables are ok.

Thanks in advance.

Wire one end 568B and one end 548A. or use a crossover cable between the router and the first jack.

ya know what, when you said router, I was thinking an actual router. If it's a broadband router it will have a 4 or so port switch built in. You will know this because it will have more than one LAN ports. If that is the case then your 568B wiring was correct. you would have a patch cable from the router to the wall... 568B wiring on both ends of your run... then a patch cable to your laptop. I'd check the pinout of the jacks and verify that everything is ok. try a different switch port. let me know if you get it working....

Hi sancho01000101,

Yes it a Linksys BEFSR41 4 Port Broadband (wired)Router.

I also tried your tip- used a cross-over cable and even wired one end of the wall jack 568A and the other 568B.

Everything works well when connested directly to the router.
=========================
To connect the laptop in the other room-- I connect a patch cable from the #1 port on the router to the wall jack.

Then another patch cable from the wall jack in the other room to the laptop.

But I get a "no connection" message.

I've tested the cables with a cable tester (So I know that the cables are ok).

I'm really stumped --any help?????

MoR.
