making an intra-net server

Tech info - 4 computers, all running win 2000 pro, all have cable NICs. 3 of them are behind a netgear firewall/router. 1 will be the server. I want to make a server that all the machines in the house can connect to in order to dump and retrieve information or to look at photos, listen to music, etc. without copying the media onto the client computers. While this server should be fully accessible and visible to all 3 machines, I’d like to keep the other computers hidden from each other as they are now. Also I’d like to keep the server off the internet. So the other three machines have to be able to connect to this server on the intranet and be able to go out on the internet. What I was thinking was using the "my network places" folder to make the server show up as extra drives on each one of the other machines. For example, E:\ drive on all the machines would be the same server. However that’s merely a thought, truth be told I’m a complete intranet noob and have no clue how to go about doing this =D can anyone help by telling me how to set up 2000 pro to do this on all the machines and what hardware or wires I need to connect them all? Even if you don’t respond, thanks a bunch for reading all the way through this =)
