Hello all ok here is the deal. I have 2 computers on a network with a D-link604 router. My computer and my fathers computer. My computer is used for gameing and mine is the one that is having the problems. I cannot ping websites or traceroute anything without it timing out, yet my fathers computer can ping and trace fine. I have turned off all firewalls, tried reinstalling windows fresh countless times, set up DMZ, opend ports, upgraded my Nforce drivers for my ethernet. I just don't know what to do, I'v checked for viruses also, My computer still times out on ping tests when it his hooked up directly to the cable modem bypassing the router. I can't play any online games without connection problems and kicking me off, file shareing programs run horrible, msn messenger randomly boots me off. My downloads will download and stop off and on. So what is it I should check, everyone tells me to ping and traceroute to find the problem but I can't becuase it times out everytime at the first hop. I really need help, I'v been messing with this for ages and need to fix this problem, any help would be much appreciated, oh and by the way I'm running off of highspeed cable internet.

You need to open a command prompt window and type the following command:

ipconfig /all

Then, do the same on your fathers PC and compare for any differences.

If the settings look the same, you may have a bad NIC, cable or port on the router.

Well It could possibly be my NIC or most likely my cable modem, I called my ISP they said my model modem is only rated for 5mb, and my isp is now running a 10mb system so they're trying to get rid of them all and replace them with there new ones. I think that is what is causing the momentary connection loses.
