Our MAC OS X 10.2 users are unable to connect to our Windows 2003 Server. I have installed the Svcs for Mac on the server and set the encryption to Apple Clear Text or Microsoft. When the Mac users connect to server, they can see the domain and the server, but the authentication process seems to fail with error: "connecting to smb:/[ip address]. An error occurred (error= -5000)" I have tried connecting using different users that all are active and valid, and none pass authentication. What am I missing? FYI: These users are able to connect to other servers running Win2K and WinNT4 sp6. Could it be a possible setting in Windows 2003 Server that I need to adjust or could it be a UAM that's not right?

I think I found out what to do here. I've tried it from linux but not the apple so far but I'm sure it'll work. I will be able to check it next week.
Seems like you need to make a registry change on the Windows 2003 box. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Parameters
The value of RequireSecuritySignature needs to be changed from '1' to '0'.

One note: If this is a domain controller, you will need to set it with the 'Domain Controller Security Policy' editor under the 'Administrative Tools' Menu. Otherwise it'll be reset nightly.
You need to go to 'Security Settings', 'Local Policies', 'Security Options'. You then need to set the 'Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications' to disabled. It is enabled by default.

We are having the same connection problem (-5000,
a.k.a. Insufficient access privileges for operation) and
have made the digital signing change on the w2k3
server, but still get no joy on connection.Has anyone else made the change and still been
unable to connect?
