m8s router turns my internet off

2 yrs ago i bought a belkin router,but yesterday i took it to a m8s house for him to use it came on and worked fine but when i got home my internet had been dissconected ,i phoned m8 up told him to switch router off then rebooted my modem and it came back on called him back told him to switch it back on and when he did my internet dissconected ,,any idea whats going on?? i did name the connection but never locked it

Seems like you left your own login settings on the router. Now your friend logs in to your ISP with your userid and your password. That would explain why you cannot connect when he is on.

Or, if he has the same provider, it could be when he fires it up, the provider detects the MAC address (which it will know) and connects to that router thinking it's you and kills your connection.
Try a reset of the router to factory defaults. This will clear all info including login info. If that fixes the issue then Nigel was right as to the cause.
If it doesn't, go into the router's management interface and change the MAC address to something else and see if that fixes the issue. If it does, then I'm right.
