Hi,
I'm having trouble with Internet Explorer or my Internet connection settings.
Two weeks ago our network had a virus (Nimbda I believe). After cleaning server & all computers, my computer wouldn't connect to Internet. (I connect thru the server).
In Internet Properties - connections - LAN settings nothing was checked, but I noticed under proxy settings server01 port 80 was shaded, so I checked Use A Proxy. Then I was able to connect to the Internet.Since then several things have changed. The virus screwed up several of my Office 2000 Premium Programs (Word & Outlook). I done several things before I realized I'd lost my Internet connection, yet I can send & receive Email with Outlook over the same connection.
I can log on from another computer, using my logon name & user password & am able to get on the Internet. So it's something in my computer. These are the main things I did between having Internet & not.
1) I updated to Internet Explorer 5.5
2) We switched from a phone modem to a
cable modem.
3) Installed Trend Office Scan Corporate
edition Ver. 3.54Things I've tried:
1) Removed Internet Explorer (actually went
back to last version, I guess)
2) Removed Office, then re-installed.
3) Reloaded drivers for LAN card.
4) Deleted all cookies.
5) Compared the Hosts file on my computer
to another, on a computer I can connect
on.
6) I've pinged the server from Dos &
received the correct response.Info on my computer:
1) Windows 98 2nd ed. 4.10.2222a
2) Compaq nc3121 Fast Ethernet NIC
3) Compaq Prosignia 330 Pentium III - 550
4) 256.0 MB Ram
5) Office 2000 Premium
6) Internet Explorer 5.5
7) Our server is running Windows NTAny suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
William Norman
