Lost DSL connection

Subject: Lost DSL connection
OS: XP Pro SP2
CPU/Ram: P4/256
Model/Manufacturer: HP Pavillion
Comment:
I have a small home office with 3 comupters all running xp Pro w/SP2. Two Dells and and HP Pavilion. Internet via Verizon DSL. On the HP, aftere a day or two I will lose the internet connection. Under Network Connections, the LAN connection says "Enabled", and the VERizon connection says "Connected" via WAN Miniport (PPPOE). But when I try to connect to a website I get the dreaded "page cannot be displayed". I've checked all the network settings and verified that everything is the same on the troublesome machine as on the other two. Normally if I delete the Verizon connection and recreate a new one I can connect for a day or two, then the connection is lost again. The only other thing I noticed on the troublesome computer was a "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" error on startup. Not sure if one problem is related in the other.
Thanks.

I don't know how Verizon works, but I do a bit of DSL work for ATT...depending on the modem you have...If your modem is a Speedstream 4100 for example, you can log into the modem and check some of the DSL signal strength parameters...

If you are loosing the connection on a fairly regular basis...the signal could be too weak...you could be on the edge of the distance the DSL signal will travel, which is about 18,000 ft or so...Some areas in ATT for example are limited to 18,000 ft and other areas are limited to 14,000 depending on the condition of the wires etc...

You need to call Verizon and bitch long and hard about dropping signal...they should be able to fix it...

If this only happens on the HP then it is probably not the DSL dropping.

How are the three computers connected to the DSL? What DSL modem and router, if any, are you using? Are you using ICS with a hub?
