I have a home network with (2) cat 5 hardwired desktops and a wireless (pcmcia) laptop all which were working fine until I got home yesterday and decided to use a Cat 5 wire for my laptop instead of the wireless card. When I plugged it in, my desktops dropped their connectivity but the laptop was fine. As I frequently have to do, I reset my Linksys BSFR 141 router and the 2 desktops came back but then the laptop lost it. I switched the laptop between the wireless card and the hard wire and it still won't get back on. Tried disabling and re-enabling the wireless card still nothing. Refreshed the Ip address...nothing...Tried running "netdiag" and it doesn't do anything but flashes a window and disappears. It's been rebooted numerous times...nothing...Swapped PCMCIA ports...nothing... Tried re-running the setup home network wizard nothing...Wasted half the day and exhausted all my knowledge. What else can I try??????
doesn't sound like anything should be wrong. when screwy stuff like that happens to me i unplug the power to my router then procede to shutdown every pc on the net. by then a minute has passed so i plug the router back in, wait another minute then turn the pc back on one by one.
I've always had to do that in the past as well. I had done it about half a dozen times this go around and last night it finally worked. Now this morning it looks like it dropped out again. I think it might be time to shop for a better unit. Anybody know which routers have a better reputation for reliability? Everyone I know that used those Linksys BSFR41 routers has the same probs- now mine is acting up more frequently...
