Comment:
Hi. Any ideas? I had my network running fine between 2 Win98 PCs: desktop (host) and a loptop (client). Cable & PCI cards. Well, after reformatting the host/server and reconfiguring the network, just after it was all good again, I was ready to print from the laptop and left it to check my printer, and came back to a fatal program error. After reboot the client (laptop) lost its network connection and, although all settings are good, won't show up on network or even in its own n'hood screen. Meanwhile both cables register at the hub and all seems fine except laptop networking capability. Appreciate any help!
I had some problems networking 2 win98 machines together and got them to work by putting the line 'net start' in autoexec.bat. A lot of times when you make changes to the network control panel, windoze edits autoexec.bat and adds that or comments it out. When you go into network neighborhood for the 1st time after boot, wait a while, try refresh a few times and give it time. If the laptop still can't see itself try typing 'net start' from a DOS window.
I'm not sure if this will fix it, but it's what I would try first.
