The above CPU, RAM and OS is not for the system in question....I didn't know how to change the info after I got into the preview of the post...sorry.....but the Linksys WRT54G is the service router of the network that I refer to below.....
The problem is at my neighbor's house.
They got a Linksys WUSB54G V4 adapter on one of their computers. That computer is running Vista. That adapter has been working fine for 8 months or so, then all of a sudden last week it stopped working.
I went in the Device Manager and there was no adapter....nothing under Network Adapters.
I went to the Linksys page and down loaded the driver to a flash drive. I installed the driver thru the wizard. After that I was able to log on to the network and had good internet access.
The problem now is......every morning I have to go thru the same thing after shutting down the computer at night. One of two things happen: the adapter is not found or there is a yellow "!" mark which alerts me to faulty drivers.
So.....what am I looking at here.....how come I can't get these drivers to stick after installation...??
Thanks to any and all who take the time to reply.

It sounds like the driver isn't making it to the system32 folder or wherever it's supposed to go. Copy it to the C: drive & run it from there without the flash drive connected.
How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

Thanks for the reply.
I never thought of that.....but no matter it's too late.
Got a call from the neighbor who said he's taking the computer into a computer shop this morning; gonna let them deal with it.
He said the guy at the shop will update the computer, install Windows 7 and check out the router/adapter.
The neighbors are in their late 60s and early 70s....raising a grandson who's all over the computer as a gamer.
I kept my mouth shut....you can only do so much.
Thanks guapo for the reply and everyone else for looking..!!
