Subject: Losing wireless connection - why??!
OS: Win xp
CPU/Ram: AMD Turion/512 MB
Model/Manufacturer: Acer Ferrari 4002
Comment:
Hi.

I have an Acer Ferrari 4002 with an integrated Acer InviLinkâ„¢ 802.11b/g Wi-Fi. This is controlled by a Broadcom utility for connecting via wireless. I have a problem where 5-10 times in an hour I lose the connection and I think it's due to some conflict with this utility and the standard windows wireless settings. I can click on the broadcom utility to turn off the radio and stop using that utility to control the wireless, but then I can't get the radio back on by pressing the button on the laptop designed to turn the radio off/on!

This makes me think that I can't completely uninstall the broadcom utility as I won't have a way of turning the radio on.

Appreciate any help to try and work this out.

Cheers

Chris

I would get rid of the Broadcom utility and use the standard windows facility. There is nothing wrong with it and you can still turn it on and off at will from Network Connections.

ok im not sure about conflicts and that but here are some RF tips for better signal.
see if there are alot of wirless netoworks in the area. if so change the band number to someting else.
next get the router as high as possile in the room/building dont put the router any where near metal work. that includes pipes adn stuff in the wall. make sure the arial is away from the main body of the route and sticking up in the air. and away from its power cord. look on the internet for a free arial modification. there templates of paper and then back it with tin foil. they work to focus the signal.
next is to look at the laptop is it sitting on a desk thats got alot metal work near a cordless phone or something that uses a powersuply if so move it away.

next wireless is pap. majour flaws besides the security issues the tech is really really crude. And the best part the more people get it and the denser the concentration of networks the more it will get flaky or not work compleatly. cos wirless is a bit like shouting if theres only the one every one will hear it if theres a tonne of them shouting then no chance. even if they dont work on the same signal. sorry people wirless is doomed.

all text needs typos. There there for the reader to find,to distract them from the total lack of content.
google it! wasnt the answer to the question i asked so dont be dense and give me that repl

Hi

Thanks for all the help. I definately think the cordless phone affects things so will be more careful about where I have that positioned when I'm on the net.

The wall socket for the router is on a double extension socket with the phone base unit so I can't imagine that helps but can't see a way around it.

Cheers

Chris
