Ok, I have a problem that is a bit strange. We have two buildings. In the main building is our main switchs (two 24 port giga bit). There is a switch placed at each end of the long cable between buildings to act as a 'repeater' boosting signal; without which we have intermittent problems..
Here is the problem. Sometimes the switches stop sending data and nothing works. All the lights are flashing on the switch. Some how unplugging the cable coming from the other building solves the problem.

It sounds like "data collision" which shouldn't happen with modern day switches. It could be that you need to rearrange the switches or you need to have your ISP setup a connection between the buildings.

What make/model are the two switches at either end of that building-to-building link?
Also, how long is that segment of cable connecting the two buildings?

If this is between 2 buildings and its copper specially if its extended run that can be a problem . Something about the different electrical potential between the buildings when they aren't all in the same electrical system , generally you should not use copper , only fiber should be used between buildings.
