Hi,
I need to connect a second pc to my router. Only problem, it's like 100 meters away from the router. I cant move either. Is it ok to connect them with a 100 meters long network cable? Wireless is not an option.
That is exactly the limit in length of a ethernet cable. Make sure it is high quality, installed professionally and doesn't go near light ballists or other EMF producing devices.
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
100 meters is the maximum length for Cat5 cable so it should work. Just make sure the cable doesnt go anywhere near any interference sources like high voltage cables, fridges and A/C units and you should be alright.
Chances are you'll still have connectivity and attenuation issues and lot's of retransmits.
I always recommend not exceeding 85 metres.
If at all possible, put a small switch between the two. This will shorten the cable length (of each segment on either side of the switch) and the switch itself will retransmit the data.
