Comment:

we are migrating from Novell 4.11 to windows server 2003. in novell scripts you could put MAP f:=SYS: in for the comptuer to map F to the root of the sys volume on the server specified and if unspecified it would use the 'closest' server.

I would like to impliment this somehow in my AD scripts. I have roaming users that go to different locations. each location has a server with all the same apps on it and these roaming users need to launch the app from the closest server.

maybe there is a program out there that could find the closest server somehow and put it in an environment varable?

the computers are all named such that they include a prefix that happens to be the same as the servername, maybe I could use that somehow...

or, maybe DFS would help? we planned on implimenting DFS but desided to put it on hold because we dont know much about it and dont even know if it would do what we want.

Any other ideas?

ps it must work w/ Win9x clients.

Thanks.
