While trying to set encryption for my wireless router, I locked myself out, and I need your help to get back into my router to reconfigure everything.
I used the default IP 192.168.xx.x to enter my router settings, and then changed the "x"s with other numbers. The Buffalo wireless router acknowledged setting the new IP "into memory". I also typed in a phrase for the WPA password, but I could have messed it up somehow. The Manual instructed me to restart the computer. After that, I cannot get back into the router, whether using the new IP or the old IP. I cannot even enter into my DSL account using the standard default IP 192.168.0.1.
To use the internet, I now have to connect laptop with the ethernet cable directly to the DSL modem in order to bypass the router which seems to have locked me out.
Router is Buffalo model WHR3-G54
I haven't got to the stage of setting the IP for my computers yet.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi sunyata. A couple of things:
-When you connected to the router to make these changes, was it over a wireless or wired connection?
-What numbers exactly did you change the 192.168.xx.x to?

When making those changes, my laptop was wired to the router.
Changed router default 192.168.11.1 to 192.168.21.31
The Buffalo router also "set into memory" without protest my pass phrase for the WPA.
If it's of any help, my laptop has XP Home SP2 and I use Firefox as browser to do the configuration. Would appreciate any assistance. Thanks.

Look for a funny little pinhole in the back of the unit and poke a wire in there: That's the reset button and will reset your router to factory defaults.
If that doesn't work it can always be used as a paperweight: Go buy a new one.

I don't think you need to buy a new one ;)
After you made the changes to the router, did you change the laptop's IP address from 192.168.11.x to 192.168.21.x? If not, that is why you can't connect. WPA has no effect on wired connections.

Jimminy:
Thanks for your quick reply. I changed the laptop IP to match the router but still unable to use the wireless after many hours.
I finally went to Fry's and bought an Airlink 802.11G wireless router for only $20, and also a pair of Super G pc cards of the same Airlink brand for $20 each. These prices were just too irresistable. I swiftly got them working right out of the boxes like a charm. For now I have removed the antenna to reduce range to 45% until I know how to set up the WPA encryption. With the router antenna on, I took my laptop 300 feet outside the concrete building and could still get internet at 35% strength.
As I am a newbie, the money spent is worth it, rather than the aggravating hours trying to sort out the mess I made with the Buffalo router.
I appreciate your assistance.

Before I responded to you I went out and googled the Buffalo router (to make sure it had a reset switch) and you probably made a wise decision. It's rated mediocre to fair in most feedbacks I saw.
