My Local Area Connection speed is 10.0 Mbps...is there any way of speeding this up and what is required to do so?
Well, almost Mike - a switch will actually enable the network to run closer to 10 mbps. In order to increase the nominal speed of the network to 100 mbps you need to upgrade the network cards in the computers and the hub/switch to be rated for 100mbps. Therefore any 100 or 10/100 componants are needed.

Keith - you say your cards are upgradable - what do you mean by this? Are they 10/100 cards (as Mike says, these are pretty standard now)? If so, get a 100 switch and all will be sorted. I have never come across "upgradable" cards - they either will run at 100 or they won't, depending on the rest of the network. To ensure that the network runs at 100, all componants need to be 100 capable. If you have an NIC or a hub which is only rated at 10, then any conversation that comes from, goes to or goes through this item will be at 10.
