Linux client can't resolve domain names

I have a RH6.2 client and a win2K client running behind another RH6.2 server running DHCP and connected to a DSL connection. The Win2K works fine (gets assigned an IP address and can resovlve addresses fine), and the RH6.2 client gets assigned an IP address, but cannot resolve domain names. nslookup returns the name of the nameserver, and I can ping anything by IP address, but not by name. I've checked nsswitch.conf and it has DNS listed first next to host, and resolv.conf also has the nameservers listed. I've run out of ideas. Any suggestions??

It sounds to me like you have a case of a corrupt socks file. Unfortunately, I don't know how to remedy that in Linux os's but I hope this at least helps you brainstorm a bit.

Hi, Try editing the resolv.conf file located in the /etc/ directory and add the ip address of your dns server similar to this:

The resolv.conf does have the DNS servers of my ISP as well as my domain name. I am not running a local DNS server. Still no luck. I did a fresh reinstall with RH7.0 on the linux client, and still no luck. I'll check into the socks file issue further, but I was hoping the reinstall would have addressed it if that was the issue. Any other suggestions
