This is a VOIP router but I am only using the internet connections. Power supply died and was replaced with a like kind. I used Network Magic to set the router up originally and would like to do that again. The reset button on the router has been held in over 10 seconds so I assume I need to reprogram the router. I've tried the 192.168.1.1 and it doesn't work. Someone told me how to find the IP address for my computer and it is very different and is the WAN address. I've tried using it anyway to ping and that didn't work. I am totally lost.

I don't know if 10 seconds are enough to reset the router. I don't know why it needs to be reset just because the power supply died. Are you sure the router itself isn't bad?

Problem resolved - I had to buy a new router - when I switched out the power supply all the lights on the old router came on except the internet light. New router is installed and now working. However, I'm one of those who never went beyond the "why" stage in childhood so now I wonder why this whole episode happened. So if anyone out there would like to venture any suggestion/guesses, I'd appreciate it.

Parts fail.

It's as simple as that. Whether your PSU going bad affected the WAN side of the router, or they were separate issues, who knows. Without detailed (time consuming) testing to ascertain exactly what happened, it would be hard to say for sure what went on with your router....and the truth is, nobody is going to spend that kind of time to figure out what happened. For what it costs to replace one, you toss the bad one in the garbage and say, "It's NG" (ng = no good) and replace it.

I agree but every time I tell someone here to spend money, I catch hell from them.
