My Linksys WRT54GX2 router will not connect to the internet. I have an older linksys router (not wireless) that works fine so I figured the switch would be easy. With every setup I've tried, the router won't connect to the internet. I spent 2 hours on the phone with a Linksys rep and he ended up telling me to exchange the router. The new router had the exact same problem. I've set the connection to PPPoE and entered my Verizon username and password, but for some reason my computer cant't obtain an IP address through the router.

Is something encrypted that shouldn't be? Sometimes when a client and server don't talk to each other, it's due to that.

How would I check to see if that is the problem?

There is a setting in the router interface. Generally Linksys uses a web interface. It's either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 I forget which. Open the browser and try the first one. Leave gthe user name blank and admin for the passwd. The setting on the NIC has to match.

Thanks for the help, but it didn't work. I went through both routers and made sure they had the EXACT same settings, but that still didn't work. Unless anyone has another suggestion I think I'll give up and try to find a new model or company. Appreciate your help.

So I've got to match the router and modem NIC? I don't quite understand what you're saying. I know how to get into the router config page to change the settings, but how exactly do I match or find out what the NIC is.
