BACKGROUND: I have a linksys wcg200 cable gateway and comcast internet service. i have had this up and running fine as a home wireless internet connection for a couple of years now with my old xp machines. This month, I replaced my oldest laptop with a new hp pavilliion dv9500 notebook running vista home premium.
PROBLEM: Every one in a while (two or three times a day) the cable gateway will lose its connection to the internet. When this happens, the gateway attempts to reconnect, but cannot. It just cycles through failed connection attempts until i turn it off and then back on. This has never happened so long as the vista machine is connected via a wire and has never happened wired or wireless with the xp machines.

Turns out DMZ was enabled, and allowing all traffic into one of my machines. I would check to see if you can ping out and check DMZ, and turn it off if enabled.
