Recently I purchased a Linksys Router. I know you can access the GUI via webpage if you put in 192.168.1.1:80. What I want to know is it possible to access the router outside of your LAN like via the internet without using a VPN to go through a computer logically connected to it?
The reason I ask is because I want to know if I should leave my router password the same and not worry about someone gaining access to it via internet.

The admin page is not accessable to the outside world but as a matter of security change your Admin password Fact 80% of commercial hacking is done from the inside out.

The Linksys routers do have a remote management feature available on the newer models. It must be enabled in the setup via LAN and then can be administered via http on port 8080 using your broadband IP.

YES always change the default pass. All the Linksys routers have the SAME default pass at least on the newer models.
you can access the router setup utility from a remote side, but on router on advance tab/filters tab enable remote management, you will only have access to the setuputility not to your computers in order for u to do that u need 3rd party software like pcanywhere or some kind of vpn client software
