Linksys Router + DSL

I just bought a new Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router. I already had a 3Com 16 port hub and a DSL modem. I went to set it up and I can't get the WAN lights to come on, on the router. I think it might have something to do with the PPPoE or RAS connection. That was part of the Router setup and I don't know what those are. Can anyone help? Or have any other suggestions.

Hey Dave, you might want to check out 8wire's review on the Linksys BEFSR41. You might find the answer that you're looking for in the review. Here is the URL: http://www.8wire.com/article_render/?aid=1770

Check in the documentation about firmware flashes, cause I know that some routers need added configuration for PPPoE.

have you tried swapping the wire from the router to your hub? It may need a crossover cat5.

I finally got the Link Light on the WAN to light up. I put a crossover cable from the LAN Port on the Router to the Hub. From the DSL Modem to the Router (WAN Port) is a straight cable. I still can't get a connection though. I have a Static IP so I'm still pretty sure it has something to do w/ the Login part (PPPoE or RAS).

Did you get this up and running? I've installed about 10 LinkSys routers for various clients. In our part of the country DSL is PPPoe. Assuming you had your connection working to just one computer before you tried networking it, you would put your username and password in the PPPoe section of your routers setup. You can use your browser to do this. Put 192.168.1.1 in your browsers address box and then enter no username and admin as the password. Go through the tabs until you see a box for enable PPPoe (assuming your provider is using PPPoe) and key in the username and password you were given during your initial setup. Email me if you still need help.

Dave, you sure you plugged the hub/router piggyback in right?
from the uplink port on the router (remember you cant use the port next to it b/c they share the same wiring) so from the uplink to (preferabbly) the 1st port on the hub. I have this same set up Linksys BEFSR41 router uplinked to a Netgear 4 port HUB in the basement works like a charm w/cable modem
