im a networking newbie as all i had before was a 4port switch linking my computers together (all xp pro)with standard windows network wizard in charge. i have just got a laptop with wireless build in so thought i would find a router to untie me from my desk. i got a BEFW11S4 but aint got a clue as to settin it up. (no docs, just the password on a bit of paper) i connect to the web using a alcatel speedtouch usb modem, all my pc's have 10/100 and my laptop has 802.11b could anyone point me in the right direction to get this up and running please. Thanks in advance for any help ))
thanks for the quick reply but i think i may have been a bit of a dummy as my dsl modem has a usb output(( i have just ran my network with a barebones server in the past, connected to a switch with the internet connection sharing enabled. is there any way i can set this up in a similar manner alowing wireless access aswell as the cat5 switch access??
i have been reading through the info on the linksys website but there has not been any mention of using internes connection sharing over the routher. as mentioned abouve i only have a usb modem (( any help??
What's the make and model on your Modem? I haven't seen a usb only modem in a long time. I would double check to make sure there isn't a cat 5 connector on the back. If there isn't and you're leasing the modem from the cable company, I'd call and demand one with an ethernet port.
