Subject: Linksys IP isn't 192.168.1.1?OS: Windows XP HomeCPU/Ram: Celeron 1.4Ghz/512MBModel/Manufacturer: HP Pavillion |
Comment: I have a Linksys Wireless-B Router, Model BEFW11S4, and I am trying to connect to the internet via my Laptop's wireless card. My wired computers work fine. I bought this Router at a yard sale and set it up a few days ago and just bought a wireless card for my laptop. Well, I believe that the "Enable Wireless" setting is not on, but I cannot get into the Config. Screen. 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1 doesn't work (but usually do for Linksys Routers). How do I find out the router config. address? I tried to enable UPnP devices to show so I could see the address in My Network Places, but it won't show up (I'm guessing it's too old) How do I find out the Internal IP/Router Config Address of my Router? BTW, I know it's not my laptop/wireless card as it works fine at my cousin's house. Thanks, Nick Happy Trails

Reply: (edit)From a wired client open a command prompt window and type the following command: ipconfig /all Then have a look at your gateway address. This will be the address of the router. Use that to connect to the management interface on the router with your web browser from a wired client.

Reply: (edit)Of course if you bought this at a yard sale and the previous owner reset the router's internal IP they may well have set a password on the login. You may need to locate and use a "factory reset" button in order to restore the unit to factory spec and remove the unknown password. I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Reply: (edit)I have used the reset button for 10 seconds to try to revert to factory setting, to no avail. But, I don't even get a password prompt. I don't even know what the internal IP address is of the router. Thanks, Nick Happy Trails

Reply: (edit)assuming youre on XP start>run>and enter "cmd" without the quotes. enter ipconfig /all or if that doesnt work for some reason.. enter ipconfig and it should list the default gateway. or.. if that doesnt work.. download the manual from http://www.starbatteries.com/libewi... that should list a way to do a factory reset on your router.

Reply: (edit)Garage sale = unknown working device With that said I would forget the ipconfig because that assumes its set for dhcp. I would also forget the wireless since that assume way more. Get a patch cable and connect directly. Set your ip to static 192.168.0.2 if that doesn't work set it static to 192.168.1.2. Idea here is you want to be in the same subnet of possible router config so you can then go to .1 and connect to the web interface. You could save yourself some time and get the correct ip subnet from the online manual for that model. Give a person a fish you feed them for a day. Ask a person to internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.
