I live in student housing on a UC campus and just learned, after complaining to the ResNet Office that my wireless wasn't working, that the wireless network i have been using for the past two years turned out to be an unofficial student network, and they didnt carry wireless networks in my area of student housing.
I pulled out my Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL router with 4 port switch. BEFSR41 hoping that I could connect both of my computers through it, since wireless was no longer na option.
I'm still at the installation phase. It asks me not to connect the router yet, telling me "the setup wizard will automatically detect your computer's settings to configure the Router. Do Not Plug in the router at this time."
"Make sure the internet connection is activate.""Use the Computer that is directly connected to the modem that was provided by your ISP"
So i have my computer plugged in, I'm connected to the internet as we see by the fact im capable of posting this inquiry. yet it tells me:
"The Computer is not connected to the internet. Check your internet connection"
I am pretty clueless about this kind of stuff so id greatly appreciate any advice and feedback. :)

Forget the wizard. Plug the PC into the router and open the browser. Type in http://192.168.1.1
A passwd prompt should appear. Leave the user name blank and use admin for the passwd. Configure the router from there.
If you are going to use DHCP make sure your NIC is set to that.

Thank you for the help. I'm trying that now. Should I do that for all the computers that will be using the router?
Also looking at it by default the "client time" is 0 (0 is 1 day) does that mean I will have to do this every morning? As I said above I'm afraid I'm fairly new and clueless to some of this stuff :)
thanks again.

okay ive got it working, but after around 10 minutes it drops the connection and i have to hit the reset button on the router to reconnect. Any idea whats going on?
