I just got DSL modem from AOL, including a network card. It all worked fine until I went out and got Linksys 10/100 5-port Workgroup Switch to network my home. The switch reads my link from the pc to the switch. But it doesn't read my AOL DSL modem to the switch. And it looks like AOL modem gives me random IPs whenever I logged on (this was before I tried hooking Linksys up with modem). What do I need to do to make this work? Please help!!!!

In BC using Telus DSL you have to setup the MAC address of the device you're connecting for DHCP registration. If you had your PC directly connected then that's the MAC that's recorded. Go into your Linksys console and record the MAC address of the PC's NIC into "Mac to impersonate" field and you should get through ok. Again, if your DSL provider stores your MAC address, this will get you back on the air.
Lastly, ensure you have your CableModem connected to the WAN port of your Linksys!!!!

To be honest with you. I dont think youre gonna get it working. I just had a friend who ran into the same problem and after trying different things (including cloning the MAC address to match the NIC) it did not work. We consulted with various message boards, Linksys support & AOL (no help),other IT technicians and we finally got the overall consensus that as so long as AOL is your DSL provider, connection via a Linksys router is not possible. Reason: AOL Proprietary PPOE software...
