How do i link 2 laptops together so that i can play LAN games?

Ive heard that i can simply ise CAT5 cable, but is this true?

I dont want to spend money on hubs and such. Just a cable solution.

Do you have network cards in each computer? Verify you have installed the proper Client, Adapter, Protocol and Services. Get or make a crossover cable like this:

Errrrrrr, that pic means nothing to me.

I have no idea how to install the proper protocol, client, adapter and services mate.
