Hey guys,
I just setup a wireless router from Linksys (WRT54G which also supports wired) onto my already existing network.I am not currently using the wireless so I am wired into the router, along with 2 other family pc's. So basically the internet feeds into the router, and the 3 pc's including mine feed from the router.
Before the router, everything went perfect... After, still perfect except for one little thing that bugs me...
The activity lights on my NIC, and the other 2 NICs in the family pc's wont stop blinking. I'm not on the net, neither are the other 2. I downloaded a small bandwidth monitoring program just to check things out.
On average, my pc's download rate is around 16 Kb/s and upload around 5. Thats when I'm not even on it, and nothings running on my pc cept like... a screensaver.
I dont like lookin in the corner of my taskbar and seeing those 2 little computers blue none stop, like they are talking and wont shut up.
Please tell me why the activity lights wont stop blinking even when I'm not actively doing anything or have anything running on the net!??!
Thanks in advance,

Scizzy,
Two possibilities:
1. You have a bad LinkSys. They are known for their problems and inconsistency, including all kinds of built in spyware, deliquent broadcasting, and incompatibilities, so you may have one that lives in that domain, it works but is buggy.
2. LinkSys has no security so you could have a rider, that's thanking God you are allowing them to surf on your back. There is suppose to be a security patch out there somewhere, but I heard it is third party and not LinkSys so buyer beware. Chech the LinkSys site first for a security patch and if you are not happy change it for a NetGear as that is secure and cost the same money.

that has all the signs of a virus/worm or spyware broadcasting out to infect someone else or update someones database. Updated AV and spyware software lately?
Or you have a defective nic and its what is referred to as a jabber. It doesn't know when to shutup. If you can swap it with one of the other machines to test.
Use the online bandwidth testers to test your internet speed. Also run shields up! to test your port vunerablility.
