Hi,

I'm currently running a computer with TightVNC installed on it. This is so I can connect to it at home when I'm away at uni. This computer's main application involves alot of inbound and outbound internet traffic. The problem is this, with the large amount of outbound net traffic, I am often unable to connect to it - this particular application is hogging all the upload bandwidth.

However, this application uses port 6881 to 6999, whereas my VNC server uses 5800 to 5900. What I'm wondering is this: is there a way to limit the outbound traffic on a certain port range? I am pretty sure my router can't do it on it's own so I am looking for more of a software solution...

Any suggestions would be wonderful, thanks.

Not sure if you can actually limit by port, but some apps like Kazaa / Kazaa Lite allow you to limit the upload and d/l bandwidth which it can use.

Well this app that I'm using DOES allow you to set a limit on outbound traffic, but only for each instance. Because I'm using several instances it's not feasible to set limits for all of them, I'd just have to keep changing them each time I opened another instance of it. Also, I need each one's max bandwidth to fluctuate as it needs to, so it doesn't bother me if one is using all the traffic that was designated for the rest of them, I just want to stop it going over a certain amount for all of them...
