Limited Internet Access

I have a linksys WRT54G wireless router. When using Bittorrent or P2P Programs, my internet access will slow down over about an hour and a half and eventually stop working, as if it was bottlenecking. I know it is the file programs, however when I limit download/uploads to only 10kb/s I still have the same problem. I lose internet access on all other computers in the household. I have the programs running on my computer which is designated DMZ on the router... I'm not sure what I can do to stop the internet from cutting out. Any ideas?
