just what is a layer 4 switch anyway?

routers are used to, well, route. do you have several subnets that need to have routes defined so clients from each can find the recsources they need?

You should not need a router if you know how to use and configure these switches. Sounds like you need to bring in a contractor to configure them to do your routing.
