Hello,
I rent a server under Windows 2003, which I use only to run a few game servers. I can connect to it via Remote Desktop (mstsc) and launch/stop the game servers through it.
I can update, send or get the game servers files through Filezilla. Currently, for what I think are security reasons, the FTP server is on my home computer and the FTP client is on the remote box, but I can set a FTP server on the remote box if needed.
I can only have 1 Windows 2003 account set, explicitely the administrator account. That is not a bug, but the term of the contract with the box provider.
Now I want to lend one of the game servers to a friend, so he will be able to test his new map creation on a dedicated server. He will be able to transfer his files through FTP, but he will have to launch and stop the game server himself. I don't want to give him access to the remote desktop for privacy reasons, so I was wondering wether he could be able to start/stop the game server exe through FTP.
To be precise, the game server has to be launched with this command: C:\MedalOfHonor\moh_server.exe +exec serverconfig.cfg. serverconfig.cfg is the game server config file, containing the commands to set the server IP, server port, number of players, game type and so on.
Is it possible to execute this command through FTP? I couldn't find an absolute response on the Internet till now:(
Thanks a lot in advance for any idea and advice.

You can setup a SSH server on the 2003 Server, and have hime access it that way, to answer your question, YES; what ever type of access you give him, he will and can do anything he wants, stop and start anything. there is not much, you can do, to provent it, or just not give him access all together. I would get away from using FTP all together, I would use Secure FTP, or SSL into the server somehow , on port 443. I would stop using RPD as well, as it and can lock-up your Server up and mess with your display setting ..etc, I would use a service called Logmein, I don't work for them, but there service works and it's cheap if you want to more then , just remote into your remote box.

I second LogMeIn.
I have a client who just logs off when leaving office (hibernation and standby disabled) then uses LogMein to carry on working wherever he has an Internet Connection.
Also UltraVNC may meet your requirements:

Thank you guys.
