I've been having latency problems when playing Counter Strike, and so far, only noticable in CS. On every server I join, even the ones that show as 30-40 ping on the server list, my ping spikes up to the hundreds or even 1000 at some points. This makes it really choppy and unplayable.
I've done everything I can think of from closing all unneeded programs to scanning for spyware and restarting my modem. I talked to Comcast and they don't show any problems with my connection on their side.
This is a new problem to me and the game, so I am not sure what to do. Could it just be CS itself? Should I contact Valve about it and see what they suggest? What do you guys think.. anyone with similar problems?
Thanks

It could be Comcast. Thier tech support is infamous for saying there is no issue(s) with thier network.
On a command line try these commands:ping www.comcast.net
tracert www.comcast.net
Search Engines Are Your FriendsMorpheus: There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path. "The Matrix"

I already pinged and ran a trace route, that's why I talked to Comcast. Hops 12 and 13 in the trace route timed out. I asked them if this would affect my connection and they didn't think so. They think the problem is when I leave the Comcast network. Because I don't have the problem with anything else.
The problem still exists even when I'm directly connected to my modem and my firewall is shutdown. The pings only spike when I'm in the game.
