What is the best way to transfer about 10GB of data over TCP/IP between computers thousands of miles apart? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

FTP would be my suggestion. I believe it is possible to set up an FTP server that will allow an upload to resume where it left off if the connection is broken. Are you trying to send a 10GB file or 10GB of many files.

FTP would be the best way to do it. Setting up an FTP server is quite easy to do. It can be on either the computer sending the data or the computer receiving the data.
There are many free FTP servers available. However, if you want one that includes automatic resume I think you are going to have to pay for it.
One other thing, if the data is a single file, make sure the receiving computer is formated with NTFS. Fat32 will give up ofter 4Gbs.
Transmitting 10Gbs over a 2Gb Internet connection is going to take the best part of two days. It may be better to put it on a couple of DVDs and send it that way.

I assume you meant 10GB, but still...are you sure?
10GB * 8 = 80Gb / 2Gbps = 2 days ???

I meant 2 Mbs. There is, as far as I know, no 2Gbs Internet speeds.

My first question would be what type of connection do these machines have? A network running on a LAN? Dial-up? Cable modem? That would be the first consideration when deciding the best way to transfer data.

10GB will take about 15 hrs on a T1 (1.54 Mbs) about 96 hours on a 256kbs DSL. Assuming about 10% overhead.

Summary: I was wondering if this was possible. Currently at my work, we run a basic network over TCP/IP and mainly use the network for peer-to-peer and resource sharing. In one office, I have only one wall ...
