Laptop's wireless is incredibly slow

Specs: Windows Vista
I just wrote a long post but it got deleted when my mouse fell on the floor and exited out lol.

So I'll keep it simple in the rewrite.

New Dell Inspiron 1545 is unbearably slow on wireless. Brother's laptop runs very fast, as does my desktop. When the 1545 is connected via ethernet it also runs fast.

All of this leads me to believe its the wireless card. Its a 802.11b/g mini card. Router is Lynksys model number befw11s4 if it matters.

Is the wireless card just a piece of junk or can I change something or update some drivers to fix this? Its literally getting 10 kbs DL speeds, while my brother's laptop is getting 200+.

Since it's a new laptop, I would call Dell's support people. Chances are they'll get you to update the driver before they do anything else (at least, they should) and if it still doesn't improve, they'll likely have you bring it in for service.

Have you installed all the latest drivers for your laptop?
If the windows version was preinstalled by dell, there is mostly a tool for automatic updates of drivers and software for your laptop.
