I live in a college dorm room. I have two computers in my room and they are connected with the Netgear MR314 router. A hub works fine for the computers, but I happen to be using the router cause it's just what I have. Without the router, I can browse the other campus computers that are sharing files. I can also play games which are hosted on the schools LAN. When using the router, I can not access any other computers on the LAN. My internet connection works fine on both computers, but I can't browse the network or play games with servers on the LAN. I can only access the two computers in my room. I am using Windows XP Pro on both systems if that makes a difference. Any help would be appreciated it.

try checking your route table on your router
your internet server might be on a diffrent subnet then your school lan but I'm guessing or maybe your school doesnt like routers. talk to your network admin see if they have a proxy and also see if they will give you the network settings then match them up with your router.

Is your router performing NAT? If so what IP address are you using on your 2 computers and router?

Also, if you are behind a router then broadcast packets will not be transmitted through. Both the networking neighborhood and local game searching use broadcast packets to find their servers. If you want to join a game you'll have to enter the specific IP of the server you want to join.
