I'm using a Belkin router to network my two computers and to share my cable internet access. According to the manual the router supports 10/100Mbps transfer. Right now I'm only getting 10Mbps. How to I boost the speed up? I'm almost positive both network cards are 10/100.

Specs of Machine 1:
Windows XP Pro
30 GB Hard drive
256Megs PC100 Ram
D-Link DFE-530TX Ethernet Card

Specs of Machine 2
Windows 98 SE
20 Gig Hard drive
64megs Ram
(no Idea what it's Ethernet card is)

I was transfering a 500 meg file from my XP machine to the 98 machine. I Went into network connections and was watcing the activity. The send data was increasing about 1MB(BYTES not BITS) every second(which is about 10Mbps)

If i were getting 100mbps it should have been moving about 12MB every second.

In XP, right-click network places, and click on properties. Double-click local connection. It should tell you if you are connected at 10 or 100Mbps. Not sure how to check on the 98 machine. If everything is connecting at 100Mbps, you won't necessarily get that kind of transfer speed, but it would be faster. On the 98 machine, you may have a config program installed for the card. If not, download it from the manufacturer's site. That should tell you what speed it is currently running at.
